Beschrijving

The Joinery Compendium is a collection of over 400 handcrafted wood joints from around the world. This unique compilation provides insights into the fascinating diversity of these joints, their history, and their applications. At a time when awareness of existing building structures and wooden constructions is growing, historical and simple construction techniques are gaining new relevance. Wood is not only used in construction and furniture making, but also increasingly in sustainable products, as wood joints without nails or glue serve as inspiration for reparability and life cycle assessment.

The introduction to the book provides basic knowledge about wood and traditional hand tools. An illustrated set of rules for naming the joints leads into the main section. Each joint is presented in a profile with axonometric and planographic drawings, as well as step-by-step instructions for its construction. The simplified graphic representation with plenty of white space allows for the addition of dimensions and notes in your own creative process. At the end of the book, an illustrated glossary enables comparability in design processes and at the same time facilitates access to digital search platforms.

The terminology is available in German, English, and Japanese.

The Joinery Compendium offers an easy-to-understand overview through language-neutral illustrations, which promotes a contemporary engagement with the subject and aims to inspire a passion for traditional wood joints.
